    Media Alert

EVENT: Speak to a Lawyer Day during Law Week Sponsored by the State Bar of Wisconsin – Celebrated nationally every May 1st, Governor Jim Doyle has proclaimed May 1-7 as Law Day Week in Wisconsin.

    DATE/TIME: Thursday, May 5, 2005
    8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

CALL: (800) 362-9082 or call (608) 257-4666 if you're in the Dane County Area.

It's Law Week in Wisconsin and if you have a legal question, call the State Bar of Wisconsin's Lawyer Referral and Information Service (LRIS).

Lawyer Referral -- Maybe you think you need an attorney, but want to talk to someone first. Call LRIS. When it's appropriate, you can be referred to a lawyer in your geographic area or elsewhere in Wisconsin who has indicated an interest in dealing with your legal situation. The first half-hour consultation will cost no more than $20. If you don't need a lawyer, LRIS will refer you to another legal service organization, government agency, or community resource that might be able to help with your legal concern.

Lawyer Hotline -- Maybe all you need is general legal information or an answer to a simple legal question, such as how to file in small claims court. LRIS will make an appointment for a lawyer to call you back, free of charge, within a few days to briefly discuss your question.

The State Bar of Wisconsin is the mandatory professional association, created by the Wisconsin Supreme Court, for attorneys who hold a law license in Wisconsin. With more than 21,000 members, the State Bar aids the courts in improving the administration of justice, provides continuing legal education for its members, and assists Wisconsin lawyers in carrying out initiatives to educate the public about the legal system
