Legislative drafting style to undergo review

    May 28, 1999

The State of Wisconsin's Legislative Reference Bureau, a legislative support agency which provides drafting services to the Legislature, has created a style committee to review its drafting policies for the Wisconsin Statutes. The committee seeks comments from attorneys and judges around the state to assist in determining changes that may improve the style of legislative drafting.

The focus of the review is not the substance or content of the statutes themselves; it deals with the technical aspects of spelling, grammar, punctuation, word usage and capitalization. Suggestions, criticisms or other comments relating to bills, including their analyses, and the statutes as they are currently written, should be forwarded to the style committee by August 31, 1999, to:

    Atty. Paul Nilsen
    P.O. Box 2037
    Madison, WI 53701-2037
    Fax: (608) 264-8522
