Candidates for new federal judgeship in Green Bay and U.S. Attorney

On Nov. 19, U.S. Senators Russ Feingold and Herb Kohl, and Rep. F.
James Sensenbrenner Jr., with the assistance of the Wisconsin Federal
Nominating Commission, forwarded the names of candidates for Wisconsin's
vacant federal judgeship in Green Bay and U.S. Attorney positions in
Eastern and Western judicial districts to President Bush. The candidates
for the federal judgeship in Green Bay include Hon. William. C.
Griesbach and Atty. Thomas L. Schober, both of
Green Bay, and Hon. Joseph M. Troy of Appleton.
Candidates for the U.S. attorney's post in the Eastern District are:
Atty. Steven M. Biskupic, Wauwatosa; Hon. John
A. Franke, Milwaukee; and Atty. Francis D.
Schmitz, Milwaukee. Candidates for the Western District are:
attorneys G. Brian Brophy, Madison; Richard F.
Raemisch, Cambridge; and John B. Van Hollen,
Washburn.
"The commission did an excellent job in sending us a group of such
high-caliber candidates. The decisions were difficult. But we are proud
to send these names to the President and confident that these federal
vacancies will be filled by talented and accomplished individuals," the
senators said.
"I am pleased with the results of the Commission, and I support and
commend the members of the Commission for their hard work and commitment
to our state. Once the President makes his decisions, I hope the process
moves swiftly so that the selected candidates can get to work,"
Sensenbrenner said.
The Wisconsin Federal Nominating Commission is an 11-member federal
nominating commission responsible for making recommendations for
vacancies in the federal judicial system. The commission is chaired by
the Dean of Marquette University law school for Eastern district
vacancies and by the Dean of the U.W. Law School for Western district
vacancies.
The Administration requested three candidates for each category, one
of whom will be nominated by the President and forwarded to the Senate
for confirmation.
