After an eight-hour public hearing on Sept. 14 and an administrative conference the following day, the Wisconsin Supreme Court has issued a court order requesting further public comment on the structure of the state's lawyer discipline system and the Board of Attorneys Professional Responsibility (BAPR), the agency that regulates the system.

BAPR has wrestled with administrative and procedural issues for approximately two years. Last spring the supreme court accepted an ABA offer to evaluate the system. The ABA's report called for a major overhaul of the lawyer discipline system.

The order outlines several principles that the supreme court justices agreed upon at the administrative conference and identified issues that the court is seeking further comment on. Written comments will be accepted by court until Jan. 4.
