    WisLAP volunteer attorneys headline ethics program on work-life balance, addiction, and mental health challenges affecting lawyers

    The Wisconsin Lawyers Assistance Program (WisLAP) joins the U.W. Law School's Center on Impaired Driving and the Dane County Bar in presenting "The Ethics of Addiction, Mental Health, and Other Troubles Facing Attorneys" on Dec. 6. WisLAP is a State Bar member service that provides confidential assistance to lawyers, judges, law students, and their families in coping with alcoholism or other addictions, mental illness, or other problems related to or affecting the practice of law.

    The Wisconsin Lawyers Assistance Program (WisLAP) joins the U.W. Law School's Center on Impaired Driving and the Dane County Bar in presenting "The Ethics of Addiction, Mental Health, and Other Troubles Facing Attorneys." The half-day program, for attorneys and law students, will be presented at the law school from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., on Saturday, Dec. 6.

    “We are excited to have three long-time WisLAP attorney volunteers as this year’s presenters,” says WisLAP chair Kathryn L. Norton, Madison. “The speakers, along with all WisLAP Volunteers are dedicated to helping lawyers, judges, and law students gain the assistance they need to stay healthy and balanced in their career, home, and social life.”

    Larraine McNamara, Milwaukee, will speak about the importance of balancing work and life; Marc McCrory, Janesville, will address alcohol, drugs, and the risk of Office of Lawyer Regulation involvement; and John Lohmann, Madison, will discuss mental health challenges for attorneys.

    WisLAP provides confidential, meaningful assistance to lawyers, judges, law students, and their families in coping with alcoholism or other addictions, mental illness, or other problems related to or affecting the practice of law.

    The program has been submitted to the Board of Bar Examiners for CLE credit. Tuition is $50. Tuition is waived for students, however, registration is required. Register online, email Nina J. Emerson, Director of the Resource Center for Impaired Driving or contact Emerson at (608) 265-3411.
