Jan. 23, 2023 – The State Bar of Wisconsin Legislative Oversight Committee is proud to announce the 2021-22 Scales of Justice Award will be given to the following legislators:
Senator Joan Ballweg (R-Markesan)
Senator Eric Wimberger (R-Green Bay)
Representative Jessie Rodriguez (R-Oak Creek)
Representative Ron Tusler (R-Harrison)
These four legislators are being honored due to their leadership efforts in the 2021-2022 legislative session advancing issues of importance to the judicial system in the legislature, ultimately resulting in several new state laws.
“The State Bar is committed to the vital role it plays in positively impacting the legislative process on issues of importance to the courts, the legal profession and the public,” said Atty. Chuck Stertz, Chair of the Legislative Oversight Committee, which presents the award on behalf of the State Bar. “The Scales of Justice Award was created to formally recognize and thank policymakers for aiding the association in fostering and maintaining the high standards of the legal profession.”
Sen. Ballweg and Rep. Rodriguez were recognized for their leadership on behalf of the State Bar’s Family Law Section, notably passing legislation involving contingency placement, expansion of court commissioner abilities, and child/family support transparency.
Rep. Tusler and Sen. Wimberger were acknowledged for their passage of Business Law’s rewrite of the business entity chapters, as well as the enactment of Family Law initiatives related to stipulated agreements and de novo review.
Individual ceremonies presenting each legislator with their award will be held in their district in the coming months.
