    Meet the Candidates for State Bar President-elect, Treasurer, and Judicial Council

    Meet the 2023 State Bar of Wisconsin officer candidates, including two lawyers from southern Wisconsin who are nominees for State Bar president-elect. The candidates represent a wide variety of backgrounds – get to know them before the election in April.

    Dec. 13, 2022 – Jane E. Bucher and Marisol González Castillo have accepted nominations to run for 2023 State Bar of Wisconsin president-elect.

    Both candidates are lawyers active in southern Wisconsin. Bucher (U.W. 2010) is a senior attorney with Russell Law Offices, S.C., in Brodhead, Darlington, and Dodgeville; and González Castillo (U.W. 2018) is an associate attorney with Hawks Quindel, S.C., in Madison.

    The president-elect serves a one-year term before becoming president on July 1, 2024.

    The nominees for treasurer are Deanne M. Koll (William Mitchell 2006) with Bakke Norman, S.C., New Richmond; and Chuck Stertz (U.W. 2009) an assistant district attorney with Outagamie County in Appleton.

    The candidates for Judicial Council representative are Saveon D. Grenell (Thurgood Marshall 2015) of Buelow Vetter Buikema Olson & Vliet, LLC, Waukesha; and John R. Orton (Marquette 1981) with Curran, Hollenbeck & Orton, S.C., Mauston.

    “I am very pleased with the slate of candidates for president-elect, treasurer, and Judicial Council. The nominating committee worked very hard to provide a diverse slate of individuals to lead the Bar into the future,” said Dean Dietrich, State Bar president-elect and committee chair.​

    The Nominating Committee members, appointed by State Bar President Margaret Hickey, are:

    • State Bar President-elect Dean Dietrich, Wausau, chair;

    • Rochelle Johnson-Bent, Milwaukee;

    • State Bar Past President Chris Rogers, Madison; and

    • Nick Vivian, Hudson.

    Candidates Needed for Board of Governors’ Positions: Submit Petitions by March 1

    The Board of Governors is the State Bar's policymaking body, and governors serve two-year terms.

    Districts 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9, 11, 13, and 15 will elect governors in 2023. District 2 (Milwaukee) elects seven, District 9 (Dane) elects three, and all other districts elect one.

    To be considered for a seat on the Board of Governors, members must submit a petition, signed by 10 active members in their district, to the State Bar by March 1, 2023.

    Vote in April: Look for Your Electronic Ballot

    All State Bar elections (including for State Bar sections and divisions) will be held via an electronic ballot in 2023. Ballots are emailed by the second week in April. The election opens on Thursday, April 13, 2023, and the closes at noon Central time on April 28, 2023.

    To ensure you receive your State Bar election ballot, add noreply@directvote.net as an approved sender in your inbox sometime before April 1. This prevents the ballot from being identified as spam.

    Please note: If you have placed any holds on emails from the State Bar, you may not receive an electronic ballot. Contact Customer Service at (800) 444-9404 to verify that your account is set up to receive your email ballot.

    State Bar members with no email address on file will receive paper ballots. Paper ballots will be mailed April 12, 2023.
