Hearing to Reinstate William J. Spangler

A public hearing will be held on the petition of William J. Spangler of Eau Claire to reinstate his Wisconsin law license.

March 4, 2020 – On Thursday, April 16, 2020, commencing at 1 p.m., a public hearing will be held before referee John B. Murphy at the Eau Claire County Court House, 721 Oxford Ave., Room 2560, Eau Claire, on the petition of William J. Spangler of Eau Claire to reinstate his Wisconsin law license. Any interested person may appear at the hearing and be heard in support of or in opposition to the petition.

In 2016, the Wisconsin Supreme Court suspended Spangler’s law license for six months for misconduct that involved failing to communicate and consult with two separate clients; intentionally providing false information to both clients about their matters; and providing fake documents that he created to each client. To be reinstated, Spangler has the burden of substantiating by clear, satisfactory, and convincing evidence that 1) he has the moral character to practice law in Wisconsin; 2) his resumption of the practice of law will not be detrimental to the administration of justice or subversive of the public interest; 3) all of his representations in his reinstatement petition are substantiated; and 4) he has complied fully with the terms of the order of suspension and with SCR 22.26.
