The State Bar divisions are accepting nominations for candidates for their 2019 elections. Here's where you can find out more about running for a leadership position with the Government, Nonresident, and Young Lawyers Divisions.

Most positions are for two-year terms. The president-elect serves for one year before becoming president for a year, followed by serving another year as past president.

Diverse candidates are strongly encouraged to run for all State Bar leadership positions.

Members of the Senior Lawyers Division with questions about division elections should contact Bryant Park at the State Bar.
The Government Lawyers Division (GLD) board is seeking nominations for members interested in running for election for president-elect, secretary, treasurer, and three directors to serve in 2019-20.
Please feel free to nominate yourself.
The GLD Board meets three times a year in person and holds two teleconferences.

The Nonresident Lawyers Division (NRLD) promotes greater communication and business opportunities among nonresident lawyers, and organizes and oversees the growing network of local State Bar chapters across the United States.
NRLD President Kathryn Bullon urges division members to run for officer and board member positions in the division for 2019-20. Positions open are president-elect, secretary, treasurer, and five members of the NRLD Board of Directors.
“We hope you will join us,” she said. “Serving as an officer or board member is a great way to stay in touch with your Wisconsin law roots, to meet and work with other NRLD colleagues across the country, and to help ensure that the State Bar and the NRLD serve your needs.”
The NRLD board meets two times a year in person, and four times via teleconference. The division president-elect also attends the State Bar of Wisconsin Board of Governors' meetings. All travel is reimbursed.
To apply: NRLD members should email a statement of interest and photo to Michelle Sherbinow by Jan. 31, 2019. Please limit statement of interest to 250 words. A nominating committee will recommend a slate of candidates for the election.

The Young Lawyers Division (YLD) seeks members as candidates for president-elect and five members of its board of directors.
Serving on the YLD Board, says YLD President Chad Schimmelpfenning, is an invaluable experience. “Aside from meeting many great and enthusiastic young attorneys through YLD programming, as a board member you will have the opportunity to support and attend outstanding events that serve both the YLD and greater communities,” he says.
“Over the past several years, I have been privileged to work with some of the brightest attorneys through YLD work. I now consider them good friends,” Schimmelpfenning says. “I hope you will submit a nomination.”
The YLD includes lawyers within their first five years of practice or under the age of 36.
To apply: YLD members should send a statement of interest, resume, and a professional headshot photo to Michelle Sherbinow. The deadline for nominations for the president-elect position is Jan. 31, 2019. The deadline for nominations for the open director positions is March 1, 2019.

Make Sure You Get Your Electronic Ballot
Elections for the GLD, NRLD, and YLD will be held via an electronic ballot. Ballots are emailed by the second week in April and the election closes at midnight April 26, 2019.

Add noreply@directvote.net as an approved sender in your inbox sometime before April 1. This prevents the ballot from being identified as spam.

If you are a member of more than one division, the email you receive will contain all of the ballots and candidate statements for any division in which you are eligible to vote.

If you have placed any holds on emails from the State Bar, you may not receive an electronic ballot. Contact Customer Service at (800) 444-9404 to verify that your account is set up to receive your email ballot.
