July 18, 2018 – It’s 5 p.m. You look back at your day – why do you feel like you got nothing done?

We are constantly interrupted by emails, phone calls, social media notifications, and other distractions. “We live in an age of information overload,” says Paul Unger of Affinity Consulting Group in Columbus, Ohio.  And this overload can take a serious hit on what you need to get done.

We get interrupted on average every two to three minutes, Unger says. “It can take up to 15 minutes to return to the work we were performing. So how can you get anything done?”

A simple tip to help: Turn off all notifications.

Another tip: Practice single-tasking. Clear your desks and your monitors of information not directly relevant to your task, Unger says.

And do your deep-thought work when you are the most rested – typically early in the day.

Learn these and more tips from Unger at his plenary talk, “Taming the Digital Chaos! Time, Task, Email & Distraction Management,” on Friday morning at the Wisconsin Solo & Small Firm Conference, Oct. 25-27 at the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells.

    Plenaries and CLE

Earn CLE, EPR, LPM, and LAU credits while networking and making friends with other solo and small-firm attorneys. Learn how you can feel better, work smarter, and reduce strain in an atmosphere of learning, networking, and fun.

Plus, free access to recorded sessions after the conference ends means the chance to earn even more CLE credits.

    Plenaries include:

    • Negotiation Origami: Five Key Skills to Improve Your Negotiation Effectiveness

    • Women in the Law – A Candid Discussion

    • Gadgets, Gizmos, and Widgets

    • What You Need to Learn Now to Prepare for 2023

    • The Top Six Things Solos and Small Firms Can Do to Avoid Disciplinary and Malpractice Claims

You can attend CLE topics in four tracks: Substantive Law, Practice Management, Technology, and Quality of Life/Ethics. CLE seminars discuss topics like protecting your practice from cyber threats, becoming a mobile lawyer, and updating your firm website.
