Notification of Committee Action on WisLAP Volunteer Award

The Wisconsin Lawyer’s Assistance Program Committee, at the request of State Bar leadership, today rescinded the award of WisLAP volunteer of the year to Stephan Addison. The award is given annually specifically in recognition for volunteer activities with WisLAP. WisLAP provides free confidential assistance to lawyers, judges, law students, and their families in coping with any substance abuse or dependence, mental health challenges, or other stressors which negatively impact the quality of life and the practice of law.  A substantial number of WisLAP volunteers have themselves been involved in the criminal justice system, recovery and rehabilitation programs, or disciplinary proceedings, and choose to volunteer as part of the process of regaining control of their own lives, and to give back to the legal profession. The program is designed to help members and their families build on their strengths and to provide support through offering services that promote physical, mental, and emotional health, and the contributions of WisLAP’s many volunteers are a critical part of its success.

Andrea Hoeschen, Chair of the WisLAP Committee
