    Author, Justice Advocate Compels Young Lawyers to ‘Grow Justice’

    Madison, WI – Dr. Artika Tyner will present the G. Lane Ware Leadership Address entitled “The Lawyer as Leader: How to Plant People and Grow Justice, Providing Tools for Advancing Social Justice” to the next generation of leaders in the legal profession, as part of the 7th Annual Young Lawyers Leadership Conference in Madison on April 1.

    The Young Lawyers Leadership Conference, hosted by the State Bar of Wisconsin’s Young Lawyers Division, will focus on fostering the knowledge, skills and motivation new lawyers need to become active members in the State Bar, local bar associations, and other public service organizations.

    In conjunction with the conference, the State Bar is also hosting its fourth Leadership Development Summit. Twenty-four new lawyers, nominated by legal professionals from throughout the state, were asked to take part in the summit. Tyner, along with the other presenters, will encourage conference and summit participants to invest in their careers by taking on leadership roles in their communities.

    Tyner is a professor at the University of St. Thomas and author of “The Lawyer as Leader: How to Plant and Grow Justice.” In her book, Tyner describes lawyers as the “gatekeepers of justice,” and provides them with the necessary tools to employ and sustain social change.

    Tyner says that now more than ever lawyers are needed to bridge the gap in serving the needs of impoverished clients and in continuing antipoverty reform efforts.

    Also on Friday, Tyner will meet with staff and leadership at the Boys & Girls Club of Dane County.
