Dec. 19, 2014 – Kevin J. Lyons, Davis & Kuelthau S.C., and Francis W. Deisinger, Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren S.C., both of Milwaukee, have accepted nominations to run for 2015 State Bar president-elect. The president-elect serves for one year before a one-year term as State Bar president. State Bar elections are held annually in April.
The candidates for State Bar treasurer are Timothy J. O’Brien of Bakke Norman S.C. in New Richmond, and Paul G. Swanson of Steinhilber, Swanson, Mares, Marone & McDermott in Oshkosh. The treasurer serves a two-year term.
Stevens Point attorney Thomas W. Bertz of Anderson, O'Brien, Bertz, Skrenes & Golla LLP, and Milwaukee attorney Joseph M. Russell of von Briesen & Roper S.C. are the candidates for Judicial Council. Judicial Council representatives serve three-year terms.
The State Bar Nomination Committee, appointed by State Bar President Robert Gagan, was chaired by Michael Guerin, Milwaukee. Other committee members included: Hon. Richard Sankovitz, Milwaukee; Daniel D. Blinka, Milwaukee; Christy Brown, Milwaukee; and Byron Conway, Green Bay.

The State Bar’s Board of Governors is the policymaking body of the organization, and is represented by 52 board members (governors) in 16 districts who serve two-year terms.
This year, Districts 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9, 11, 13, and 15 will elect governors. District 2 (Milwaukee) elects seven; District 9 (Dane) elects three; and all other districts elect one.
To be considered for a seat on the Board of Governors, members must submit a petition signed by 10 active members in their district at the State Bar by March 2, 2015. Nonresident Lawyers Division (NRLD) members will choose a president-elect for a one-year term, and a secretary, treasurer, and five directors to serve two-year terms. Please note that only active and emeritus-status NRLD members can run for these positions. State Bar Offices and Board of Governors
Election ballots will be mailed no later than April 10, 2015, and must be returned by April 24, 2015. Persons elected will take office July 1, 2015.
