    Litigation, Dispute Resolution and Appellate Practice Institute Comes to Milwaukee in May

    Find the experience and topics you need to hone your skills and advance your career at the State Bar of Wisconsin PINNACLE® 2014 Litigation, Dispute Resolution, and Appellate Practice Institute, on May 22 and 23, in Milwaukee, at the Pfister Hotel.

    April 2, 2014 – Earn up to 12.0 CLE and 1.0 EPR credits at three plenary sessions and a luncheon program, and choose from 18 breakout sessions. The State Bar of Wisconsin PINNACLE 2014 Litigation, Dispute Resolution, and Appellate Practice Institute comes to Milwaukee on May 22 and 23.     Keynote Luncheon Speaker – The Future of the Practice of Law

    Jordan FurlongJordan Furlong is a lawyer, consultant, and legal industry analyst who forecasts the impact of the changing legal market on lawyers, clients, and legal organizations. His optional CLE luncheon, The Empty Courtroom: Preparing for a New World of Litigation, Dispute Resolution, and Appellate Practice, will canvass the current changes in the legal market, with a specific focus on the impact of developments in technology, competition, and regulation on lawyers. Furlong will offer recommendations for how litigation, dispute resolution, and appellate practitioners can respond and adapt to current and future changes in the practice of law.

    The optional CLE luncheon will be followed by a breakout session where attendees can formulate strategies for implementing changes in their practices that will help them adapt to the emerging legal market.

    Plenary Sessions

    During the Thursday afternoon plenary session, 3:50 – 4:30 p.m., Freeing Supreme Court Justices from the Politics of Re-election, members of a State Bar of Wisconsin-appointed Judicial Task Force will explain their recent recommendations to change the term of Wisconsin Supreme Court justices to a single 16-year term. Presenters are Christine Bremer Muggli, Catherine M. Rottier, and Joseph M. Troy.

    The opening plenary session will feature a panel discussion, The Disappearing Jury Trial: What Does it Mean for the Practicing Lawyer? As Fewer and fewer cases go to trial. This interactive panel will address how this reality affects litigators, mediators and the law developed by appellate courts. This panel discussion will kick off the Institute on Thursday at 8:30 and is moderated by Ronald G. Pezze.  Presenters include George W. Curtis, Terry E. Johnson, Hon. Patrick L. Snyder, and former Supreme Court Justice Janine P. Geske.

    Friday morning's plenary session will feature a presentation by Gregory J. Van Rybroek, The Slipperiness of Happiness: Can Attorneys Capture Well-being? Rybroek will address the elusive nature of happiness and what is in our way if we cannot capture our own happiness.

    General CLE Sessions

    More than 40 judges and lawyers will offer expert advice and practical suggestions, including how-to tips, technology-related issues, and ethics. General CLE sessions are offered in three tracks: litigation, dispute resolution, and appellate practice.

    Friday sessions, 9:30 a.m. – 12:25 p.m., include:

    Social Events

    Attend the opening reception on Thursday, 4:50 – 6 p.m., and enjoy beer, wine, soda, and hors d’oeuvres, compliments of exhibitors and sponsors while networking with your colleagues.

    Visit the Expo Hall for continental breakfasts and refreshment breaks throughout the institute and meet with businesses that tailor their products and services to the legal community.

    Registration, Tuition, and CLE

    Register online or call the State Bar at (800) 728-7788. Tuition is $379 for members, $189.50 for emeritus members and for Ultimate Pass® Silver subscribers, and $479 for nonmembers. Institute tuition, except for the luncheon, is free for Ultimate Pass® Gold subscribers. The optional luncheon with Jordan Furlong is an additional $20. To attend the luncheon, and earn 1.0 CLE credit, attendees must check “optional CLE Luncheon” when registering for the institute.

    Members can earn up to 12.0 CLE and 1 EPR credits. PINNACLE will record selected presentations and offer them via webcast at a later date at no additional cost to registrants.
