Committee involvement is professionally and personally rewarding, deadline to volunteer is March 31

Incoming State Bar President Kevin Klein and the State Bar need your help. Klein will be making committee appointments this spring, and it's time to show your interest.

March 21, 2012 – The State Bar needs volunteers. Committee service provides the opportunity to influence important issues facing the profession and the legal system, and it’s a great way to meet other lawyers. Whether you are a new lawyer, unsure of how or whether to get involved, or a veteran who for whatever reasons has stayed on the sidelines, perhaps now is the time to begin.

In this video, four active volunteers talk about why they make the commitment. Barbara Becker, Bayside, is an active Elder Law Section member who has served in every officer position and as Family Law Section chair. Lydia Chartre, Milwaukee, launched her volunteer career with the Young Lawyers Division and continues on Finance and Insurance and Member Benefits committees today. Margadette Demet, Milwaukee, after many years of service as chair or board member for the Law-related Education, General Practice, and Legal Assistance committees, continued her volunteerism with the Senior Lawyers Division. Dean Dietrich, Wausau, who served as State Bar treasurer and Professional Ethics chair, now chairs the Wisconsin Law Foundation Finance and Executive committees.

Take a moment to watch the video, and then visit the Leadership Opportunities Directory to see which committees and issues facing Wisconsin lawyers you would like to contribute to. Then fill out the committee volunteer interest form. Deadline to volunteer is March 31.
