Sept. 18, 2019 – Not sure you have what it takes to be a great leader? Taking part in the State Bar of Wisconsin G. Lane Ware Leadership Academy helps you learn the skills to become confident in your ability to lead, according to past participants.

“For the majority of my professional life, I have maintained the belief that surely I cannot possess any leadership traits,” said Cynthia Herber of CRH Legal LLC, a participant in the 2018-19 Academy. “The G. Lane Ware Leadership Academy opened my eyes to discredit that belief.”

The academy is a multisession training program – with three, two-day sessions in November, February, and April – that fosters leadership skills in Wisconsin lawyers.

The program focuses on skills for leadership, including effective written and verbal communication, time management, public speaking, conflict resolution, active listening, community leadership, and networking.

By participating in the Leadership Academy, Herber says she “gained a new sense of professional self-worth and was able to recognize leadership attributes I already possessed. It allowed me to find a creative way to combine new skills with those I already had,” she said.

The Leadership Academy, she said, “is a practical and fun program to teach us how to be better lawyers and better leaders.”

Participants not only gain leadership skills, but expand their ability to effectively network with others.

“I’m already seeing the benefits of the program in my career,” said 2018-19 Academy participant Claire Hartley of Buelow Vetter Buikema Olson & Vliet, LLC. “The Academy helped me see my potential, and to gain the confidence I needed to pursue leadership opportunities.”
