Oct. 20, 2010 – Lowell Sweet, Sweet & Maier & Colletti S.C., Elkhorn, is the 2010 recipient of the John Lederer Solo and Small Firm Service Award. Sweet will receive the award on Oct. 29 at the Wisconsin Solo and Small Firm (WSSF) Conference, in the Wisconsin Dells.
The award, presented by the State Bar of Wisconsin and the Milwaukee Bar Association, recognizes individuals, groups, or organizations that exemplify the leadership, spirit, and dedication of attorney John Lederer by focusing on improving the lives and practices of Wisconsin’s solo and small firm attorneys. It was Lederer’s mission to help solo and small firm lawyers master the skills and technology needed to build their practices.
In his letter of nomination, Daniel L. O’Brien of Carlinville, Ill., notes, “Without Mr. Sweet’s constant advocacy of a conference for solo and small firm practitioners –going back to the days of the Midwest Conference – the Solo and Small Firm Conference would not exist.”
Sweet has served on many State Bar committees, including four terms on the Board of Governors, and as a long-time active member of several sections. His service does not stop at section and committee involvement. “Lowell has served as a mentor to many attorneys,” says O’Brien. “In 2004 he was honored with the State Bar Mentorship award for his work in assisting new lawyers and law students entering the practice of law. He has the unique ability to suggest simple practical solutions to common practice problems.”
