    Federal Nominating Commission seeks applicants for judicial vacancy in Western District and for U.S. attorney in Eastern District

    Feb. 18, 2009 – Wisconsin’s Federal Nominating Commission, charged with making recommendations for vacancies in federal judgeships and U.S. attorney positions, is accepting applications for a vacancy on the U.S. District Court for the Western District and for the position of U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin.

    The vacancy on the United States District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin results from the pending retirement of United States District Judge John Shabaz. The position of United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin results from the resignation of the incumbent.

    The Commission seeks out qualified candidates, including women and minority candidates, for appointment to both the federal judgeship and U.S. attorney positions.

    Application materials will be made available beginning Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009, and must be returned no later than 12:00 p.m. on Monday, March 2, 2009.     UW-Madison Law School Dean Kenneth Davis, Jr. chairs the Commission for the Western District judicial vacancy. Marquette University Law School Professor Michael M. O’Hear chairs the Commission for the Eastern District U.S. attorney vacancy. Other commission members are Stephen Glynn, Nathan Fishbach and Susan Hansen, all of Milwaukee; Christine Bremer Muggli, of Wausau; Michelle Behnke, Chuck Curtis, and Harvey Temkin, all of Madison; Ken Calewarts of Green Bay; Peg Lautenschlager of Fond du Lac; and Thomas Sleik of La Crosse.
