Governor to proclaim life planning week Nov. 8 - 12

Gov. Jim Doyle will proclaim Nov. 8 to 12 "Life Planning Week" to remind Wisconsin families about the importance of preparing for future health needs. The State Bar is planning several radio interviews featuring volunteer attorneys to educate the public and encourage Wisconsin citizens to make life planning a priority during the week. The State Bar also will be giving away a limited number of free copies of its publication A Gift to Your Family: Planning Ahead for Future Health Needs.

Life planning book"Life Planning Week is a great way to remind Wisconsin residents to discuss health care decisions and put wishes in writing before an emergency happens," says State Bar President Michelle Behnke. "Last year, more than 6,000 guides were downloaded from LegalExplorer, the State Bar's public Web site. During the past five years the State Bar has distributed more than 110,000 planning guides. The proclamation brings visibility to this valuable publication and demonstrates the value lawyers bring to the public, a message the State Bar is consistently using in its communications to the public."

This year marks the second consecutive year that Gov. Doyle has shown his support for Life Planning Week through a gubernatorial proclamation. The State Bar is committed to educating the public about the importance of life planning and has sponsored several free hotline events throughout Wisconsin in 2004. The consumer guide now in its fourth printing, initially was produced through a partnership with the Wisconsin Hospital Association, the Wisconsin Medical Society, and Gunderson Lutheran Medical Center.

Print copies are available at a reduced cost of $1 for members, plus tax, shipping, and handling. Volume discounts are available. Order online or contact the State Bar at (800) 728-7788 or (608) 257-3838.
