State Bar introduces online CLE Books; electronic searching is
simpler, easier, faster
Members now can purchase electronic versions of most State Bar CLE
Books through Loislaw. The online books include links, through the
Loislaw global database, to all cases, statutes, and regulations cited
in the State Bar CLE Books. Users can search multiple titles
simultaneously, hyperlink to any case or statute cited in the search
results, and save searches to discover new developments.
"While hard-copy books are still an important reference tool,
searching electronic files is certainly quicker; plus the primary law is
updated within 72 hours of its publication," says Tom Dixon, State Bar
CLE director. "Electronic books will complement the hard-copy book on
your shelf. Since the books are accessible via the Internet, it is like
carrying your library with you wherever you have an Internet connection,
whether you are at home, the office, or evenon the road."
Users receive a password to access the title or titles to which they
have subscribed and can search publications by topic. Users can search
through several publications at once, individual publications, or
sections of publications. New case law and updated legislation are
typically available within 24 to 72 hours of receipt from the official
source. Users also are offered the ability to find subsequent history
for cited cases via GlobalCite, Loislaw's citator service. The
GlobalCite function allows a State Bar online CLE Book user to
scan all of the appropriate Loislaw databases to find documents that
have cited the case or statute in question. The results list of each
GlobalCite search includes the citation of the document, a
summary of the documents found, and the capability to hyperlink to the
full text of cases and statutes.
Access books and links electronically for a one-year renewable term
for the current list price of the book or library package. Users can cut
and paste text and print for no additional cost. Each online book will
be updated automatically as soon as the State Bar publishes a supplement
or revision, with no additional cost to the subscriber.
In addition, one flat rate includes unlimited access by any member of
the firm. Firms requiring concurrent access by multiple users may
purchase additional passwords, each at 40 percent off the base price of
the subscription. You will receive your password within 12 to 48 hours
of placing your order. Once you have your password, you will be able to
access your CLE Books online wherever you have Internet access - no need
to wait for a book to arrive in the mail.
Payment and pricing. Members can subscribe to individual
titles at list price or take advantage of a significant discount by
subscribing to pre-set practice-library packages. Select from
Benchbooks, business law, civil litigation, family law, criminal law,
elder law, and more. Members may also "build their own packages" by
