Wanted: Two outstanding jurists
The State Bar's Bench and Bar Committee is
searching for two outstanding jurists to honor with its judicial awards.
Nominations are sought for the 2004 Judge of the Year and the Lifetime
Jurist Achievement awards. Both awards will be presented at the 2005
State Bar Annual Convention, May 4 - 6, at the Midwest Airlines Center
in Milwaukee.
The Judge of the Year Award recognizes a jurist who has improved the
judicial system during the past year by his or her leadership in
advancing the quality of justice, judicial education, or innovative
programs. High ideals, personal character, judicial competence, and
community involvement are hallmarks of the award recipient.
Past recipients include judges John J. Perlich, Gerald C. Nichol,
Maxine White, Gary L. Carlson, Michael P. Sullivan, Harold V. Froelich,
Dennis Barry, and Thomas Barland.
The Lifetime Jurist Achievement Award recognizes a jurist with at
least 12 years of experience as a trial judge who has demonstrated
outstanding, long-term judicial service during his or her years as a
sitting judge.
Past recipients include judges Robert A. Haas, Edwin C. Dahlberg,
Myron L. Gordon, P. Charles Jones, Mark J. Farnum, Patrick Sheedy, Peter
Pappas, and John A. Decker.
"The Bench and Bar Committee wants to recognize the important work
that the judiciary of Wisconsin performs for this state," says Hon.
Daniel M. Floeter, committee chair. "We therefore strongly encourage
members of the Bar and the public to submit letters of nomination for
these awards."
