Bar dues and court assessments set

The 2005-06 State Bar dues and supreme court assessments statement will be mailed this month. State Bar dues remain at $224 for active members.

The supreme court-imposed assessments for lawyers practicing more than three years include: $50 to the Wisconsin Trust Account Foundation (WisTAF); $13 to the Board of Bar Examiners (BBE); $132.66 to the Office of Lawyer Regulation (OLR); and $10 to the Wisconsin Lawyers' Fund for Client Protection.

BBE and OLR fees quoted are for full active licenses for lawyers in practice for three or more years, and both remain unchanged from last year.

The Wisconsin Lawyers' Fund for Client Protection assessment also remains unchanged from last year. All Wisconsin-licensed attorneys, except those classified as inactive, subsidize the fund. (See article on page 3.)

On Jan. 12, the Wisconsin Supreme Court granted a WisTAF petition imposing a $50 annual assessment on each active member to support civil legal services for those who cannot afford a lawyer. The court created WisTAF in 1986 to receive and make grants of IOLTA funds to provide legal aid to the poor.

Dues and assessments are due July 1, 2005.
