    Inside the Bar May 2004: State Bar president-elect post goes to Guerin

    D. Michael Guerin of Gimbel, Reilly, Guerin & Brown in Milwaukee won the race for State Bar president-elect, defeating Thomas L. Shriner of Foley & Lardner in Milwaukee. Guerin's term begins July 1 when Michelle Behnke, Madison, succeeds George Burnett as State Bar president.

    D. Michael Guerin of Gimbel, Reilly, Guerin & Brown in Milwaukee won the race for State Bar president-elect, defeating Thomas L. Shriner of Foley & Lardner in Milwaukee. Guerin's term begins July 1 when Michelle Behnke, Madison, succeeds George Burnett as State Bar president.

    "I am honored to be selected for the position of State Bar President-elect," says Guerin. "I would like to express my appreciation to all of you who participated in the election process. I learned much about the issues affecting members during my recent visits to local and specialty Bar associations.

    "I also would like to thank Tom Shriner for his friendship and his commitment to the Bar," says Guerin. "Both Tom and I have a common interest in making sure that the Bar operates for the benefit of all of the members. I look forward to my year serving the presidency of Michelle Behnke. A special thanks to Pat Ballman and George Burnett for their leadership during their presidencies."

    In other State Bar elections, Gretchen G. Viney of Viney & Viney in Baraboo was elected State Bar secretary, defeating William C. Hess of Wausau's Hess, Dexter, Reinertson & Brunner S.C.

    Beth Ermatinger Hanan of Milwaukee's Gass Weber Mullins, LLC defeated Thomas D. Zilavy of Madison's DeWitt Ross & Stevens S.C. for a seat on the Judicial Council.

    Those elected to serve on the State Bar Board of Governors are:

    • District 2: Lisa M. Arent, Andrew J. Chevrez, Thomas L. Frenn, Gregg M. Herman, Grant F. Langley, Daniel L. Shneidman, all of Milwaukee
    • District 4: Elizabeth G. Rich, Plymouth
    • District 6: John P. Macy, Waukesha
    • District 8: R. Michael Waterman, Hudson
    • District 9: Daniel P. Bach, Robert J. Lightfoot II, Paul R. Norman, all of Madison
    • District 10: Mark J. McGinnis, Appleton
    • District 12: Rex A. Ewald, Monroe
    • District 14: Peggy L. Miller, De Pere
    • District 16: John F. O'Melia, Jr., Rhinelander

    Joel Hirschhorn of Coral Gables, Fla. is the president-elect of the Nonresident Lawyers Division. Harvey L. Wendel of Madison is the president-elect of the Senior Lawyers Division. Alan L. Hougum of Wausau is the president-elect of the Young Lawyers Division. All terms begin on July 1.
