Multiple state bars have reported a phishing scam involving fraudulent emails that appear to come from State Bar leadership or staff.
June 25, 2025 – Multiple state bars have reported a phishing scam involving fraudulent emails that appear to come from bar leadership or staff. The scam email is designed to look like an official communication from the State Bar.
It could use a deceptive email address – something like
l.martin@wisbar.org.securemsg.com – that is not affiliated with the State Bar of Wisconsin.
If you see a return email address like this, it is a scam.
Members should not respond to the message, click on any links, or provide personal information. The State Bar of Wisconsin does not use third-party services like “Securemsg” for official communications.
Lawyers are always advised to remain vigilant as scammers continue to refine their tactics.
Practice411™, the State Bar’s law practice management program, offers additional tools to help members identify and avoid becoming victims of fraud. Visit
