    Government Lawyers Division: Nominations Due Jan. 31

    The Government Lawyers Division (GLD) addresses the concerns of government-employed attorneys. The division includes state attorneys, state public defenders, state prosecutors, corporation counsel, family court commissioners, city attorneys, U.S. attorneys, and others.

    “Despite our very diverse practice areas and settings, government lawyers share a common commitment to public service,” said Julie Wilson, GLD president. “It’s rewarding to make new connections, feel an increased sense of camaraderie, and to be of service to my fellow government lawyers by providing great programming and bringing our unique and important perspective to the State Bar at large.”

    Open positions for GLD leadership for next year are:

    • president-elect (3-year term: one as president-elect, one as president, and one as past president);
    • treasurer (2-year term);
    • secretary (2-year term); and
    • three board of director positions (2-year term).

    The GLD board typically meets three times a year in person (2020 excepted) and two times via teleconference. Mileage is reimbursed. The president also serves on the State Bar Board of Governors.

    To apply: GLD members should email a statement of interest and a headshot photo to Kim Burns by Jan. 31, 2021. Please limit statement of interest to 250 words.

    Nonresident Lawyers Division: Nominations Due Jan. 31

    The Nonresident Lawyers Division (NRLD) promotes greater communication and business opportunities among nonresident lawyers, and organizes and oversees the growing network of local State Bar chapters nationwide.

    NRLD President-elect Erik Guenther urges division members to run for officer and board member positions for 2020-21.

    “Service on the NRLD board provides an opportunity for division members to shape the vision of the State Bar of Wisconsin and maintain ties to Wisconsin,” Guenther said. “It is a rewarding experience, and one that allows for networking with other lawyers around the country who share a love for Wisconsin.”

    “Even in the midst of a global pandemic, the NRLD continues to serve nonresident lawyers licensed in Wisconsin through CLE events and by educating members about State Bar services,” Guenther added.

    Open positions for NRLD leadership for next year are:

    • president-elect (3-year term: one as president-elect, one as president, and one as past president)
    • treasurer (2-year term)
    • five board of directors positions (2-year term)

    The NRLD board typically meets two times per year in person (2020 excepted) and four times via teleconference. The division president-elect also attends the State Bar of Wisconsin Board of Governors' meetings. Travel is reimbursed.

    To apply: NRLD members should email a statement of interest and a headshot photo to Kim Burns by Jan. 31, 2021. Please limit statement of interest to 250 words. A nominating committee will recommend a slate of candidates for the election.

    Young Lawyers Division: Nominations Due Jan. 31

    The Young Lawyers Division (YLD) is committed to providing leadership training, continuing legal education, and networking opportunities to its members.

    “My time on the YLD board has provided me friendships, professional growth, and numerous opportunities to get involved in networking, CLE programming, and public service projects,” said YLD President Elise Bodager. “In serving on the YLD board, you will meet and work with young lawyers from across the state and in service to our young lawyer members. I highly encourage anyone interested in to run.”

    • president-elect (3-year term: one as president-elect, one as president, and one as past president)
    • treasurer (2-year term)
    • five board of directors positions (2-year terms)

    The YLD includes lawyers within their first five years of practice or under the age of 36. The YLD board typically meets four times per year in person (2020 excepted), and one time via teleconference. Travel is reimbursed. The past president also serves as the YLD representative on the State Bar Board of Governors.
