Nov. 6, 2019 – Wisconsin Lawyer™ magazine and its previous iterations, including the Wisconsin Bar Bulletin and the Bulletin of the State Bar Association of Wisconsin, are now part of the HeinOnline digital archive that includes issues dating back to 1927.
State Bar members can access the Wisconsin Lawyer digital archive through the WisBar website (login required). The database allows users to easily share links to individual pages or full issues, download or print pages, and even bookmark results.
Search results provide the exact page images as they appear in the original print copy. This means citing the print version is easy, and all sidebars, tables, pictures, and footnotes appear as they did in print. HeinOnline is optimized for mobile devices.
Members can still access WisBar.org’s Wisconsin Lawyer archive, but the digital database on WisBar only includes issues dating back to 2002. In addition, HeinOnline’s advanced search functionalities allow users to quickly pinpoint relevant content.
Let’s say you are looking for any Wisconsin Lawyer articles on “proxy voting.” Just go to HeinOnline and search on “proxy voting.” Any article with those terms will quickly appear in the results, which can be sorted by date, content type, and other filters.
In addition, the Fastcase™ online legal research database – a benefit to State Bar of Wisconsin members – will include Wisconsin Lawyer articles archived in the HeinOnline database, which will give members quick access to citations within articles.
Wisconsin State Law Library Access to HeinOnline
While State Bar members can access the full Wisconsin Lawyer digital archive through WisBar.org’s HeinOnline portal, Wisconsin lawyers also have access to many other HeinOnline databases – including other bar journals, law reviews, and legal periodicals – through the Wisconsin State Law Library. All you need is a free library card.
Fill out a library card application. Once you receive a library card number, you can access many of the online legal databases available, including HeinOnline. The state law library issues cards to Wisconsin-licensed lawyers, judges, legislators, and staff.
