Eckhardt’s Workbook for Wisconsin Estate Planners

April 20, 2011 – Attorneys who practice estate planning know how complex and technical this area of the law has become. Published by State Bar of Wisconsin PINNACLETM and updated in April 2011, Eckhardt’s Workbook for Wisconsin Estate Planners offers valuable guidance on this complex area of practice. Considered a “must-have” among Wisconsin attorneys, the workbook is a one-stop reference book, with a practical how-to approach. Checklists, examples, tables, charts, and diagrams simplify and integrate the topical discussions. Annotated sample forms illustrate how general principles can be applied in practice. The title is available in print and online via Books UnBound™, PINNACLE’s subscription-based online library.

Readers will find quick and clear answers to questions about drafting wills with or without trust provisions, nonprobate transfers, estate and inheritance taxes, revocable trusts, gifts, marital property agreements, buy-sell agreements for closely held businesses, living wills and powers of attorney, and much more.

The book presents the most current legal developments through regular supplementation. The new supplement highlights developments in the law since the publication of the 2008 revision, including the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010, which was signed into law on Dec. 17, 2010, and significantly revises the tax laws for decedents dying in 2010, 2011, or 2012. Another major change was Wisconsin’s adoption of the Uniform Power of Attorney Act in newly created chapter 244 of the Wisconsin Statutes, which became effective on Sept. 1, 2010. Chapter 11 was revised to incorporate these significant changes and to include new author-drafted forms.

The book also includes a CD with the complete set of forms and sample letters from the book. The forms are also available online through Books UnBound.

Eckhardt’s Workbook for Wisconsin Estate Planners represents the efforts of more than 15 attorney-experts: Susan L. Collins, John C. Frank, Joyce Littlejohn Kiel, John A. Kussmaul, Judith G.
