Every State Bar of Wisconsin Certified Paralegal^®​​​ must adhere to the following rules and requirements:

• They may work only under the direct supervision of a licensed attorney in good standing, either as an employee or an independent contractor (this also includes paralegals who work in government under a judicial officer)​ 
  
• They may not establish an independent practice as a paralegal separate or divorced from the direct supervision requirement
• They must conduct themselves in accordance with:
  • The American Bar Association Model Code of Professional Responsibility and Model Rules of Professional Conduct
  • The Code of Ethics adopted by any professional paralegal association to which they belong
  • The Wisconsin Supreme Court Rules of Professional Conduct for Attorneys
