May TV pilot spotlights emergency rescue search and dive team lawyers

Attorneys Lance Grady, Waukesha, and Dean Richards, Delafield, will be featured in a 30-second television pilot, scheduled to air in May, highlighting lawyers who demonstrate exemplary commitment to community or pro bono service. They will be spotlighted for their involvement with a local fire department, emergency medical team, and search and rescue dive team.

Second TV spotlight in May features attorneys Dean Richards (top right) and Lance Grady (bottom right) for their involvement with Delafield's fire department, emergency medical team, and search and rescue dive team.

Richards and Grady formed the Search and Rescue Dive Team for the Town of Delafield and five surrounding communities in 1996 after several drownings in local lakes. Grady is a lieutenant and emergency medical technician for the Town of Delafield Fire Department and the Search and Rescue Dive Team director. Richards is the chief of the Town of Delafield Fire Department and a Search and Rescue Dive Team member.

Search and rescue efforts involve quickly gathering facts - such as where the victim was last seen - from witnesses of possible drowning victims, and then diving into dark lake waters with zero visibility. During the winter months, water temperatures can be just above freezing.

Together Richards and Grady have responded to more than 2,000 calls for help since 1998, providing fire protection and emergency medical services to nearly 8,000 residents living in a 22-square-mile area.

"Each time they answer a call they demonstrate selfless dedication," says Amy Westrup, a colleague of Richards. "They routinely put their lives on the line for their neighbors and community. They do this because they enjoy helping others, people in the community their neighbors, their friends."

"Every time they respond to a call they are risking their lives," says Grady's colleague Sandy McGee. "They truly are heroes."
