Jon Axelrod was elected president of the Wisconsin Law Foundation last month.
May 15, 2013 – Long-time Wisconsin Law Foundation (WLF) member, Jon Axelrod, was elected president of the Fellows last month. His term began upon election.
“It’s been a great pleasure during these past years to welcome new Fellows and increase our membership, which supports excellence in the profession, in service to the community, and in contributions to the Bar Foundation’s grant programs,” said outgoing President Christy Brooks. “I’ve known Jon’s enthusiasm for helping others since my law school days in Madison, and he’s the right Fellow to lead and grow this great group of lawyers.”
A member of the 2006 Class of Fellows, Axelrod’s service to the Foundation includes serving on the Fellows Nominating Committee. He is a long-time member of the State Bar Litigation Section, a member of the Senior Lawyers Division, and a former member of the Bench Bar Committee.
Axelrod, a partner with DeWitt Ross & Stevens in Madison, is a member of the firm’s Litigation practice group. His record of litigation successes is impressive with several of his cases resulting in landmark decisions in Wisconsin and federal appellate courts, and the U.S. Supreme Court. The Wisconsin Supreme Court appointed Axelrod to the Board of Attorneys Professional Responsibility, now the Office of Lawyer Regulation, where he served for five years. Axelrod received his J.D. from U.W. in 1968.

The WLF has distributed more than $295,300 in grants to support law-related education and public service programs statewide on behalf of the legal profession since 1996.

Brooks’ service to the Fellows includes her tenure as president and serving as a member of the Fellows Awards and Membership committees. She currently serves as the president of the Nominating Committee and the Board of Trustees, and has served as secretary of the Board of Trustees. Brooks was a member of the 2005 Class of Fellows.
About the Wisconsin Law Foundation and the Fellows
The WLF is a charitable and educational organization that serves to promote public understanding of the law, improvement of the administration of justice, and other law-related public service through funding of innovative and creative programs that improve the vision of the American justice system
The Fellows program was instituted in 1999. It honors accomplished State Bar of Wisconsin members who have made significant contributions to their communities, offers quality educational programs to foundation members, and raises additional funds for the foundation. The inaugural class of Fellows in 2000 comprised 83 members. Membership today is 220. Fellows are elected by nomination from the Fellows.
The Fellows’ annual recognition reception and dinner will be held on Thursday, Oct. 3 in Madison, when the Class of 2013 will be inducted.
