    Job Summary

     

    The Sr. Director, Gift Planning and Agreements position at UW-Milwaukee is responsible for drafting agreements through consultation with both internal and external stakeholders, managing estate gift administration, and managing the planned gift program including implementation of best-practices for marketing, prospect identification and donor stewardship.

     

    This individual serves as a senior director in University Advancement, a thought leader with significant access to the Vice Chancellor of Advancement and is a leader among fundraising staff. This individual is a strategic partner to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Advancement. This individual acts as informal, in-house counsel on all matters of gift negotiation, and manages drafting and finalizing gift agreements on behalf of University Advancement and the donor.

     

    Responsible for working with staff in University Advancement and with the Chancellor, Vice Chancellors and other academic leaders to ensure gift agreements are the best possible representation of the donors' wishes and University interests. Serves as a key partner to the staff and leadership at the UWM Foundation, Inc., and serves as Advancement's primary contact for compliance matters and often partners with colleagues in UWM's Office of Legal Affairs.

     

    Responsibilities also include, managing the gift agreement process, ensuring that gift agreements are consistent with UWM and UWM Foundation policies and protocols, tracking and storing gift agreements, monitoring of gift agreements for adherence to University policy and CASE guidelines and serves as an advisor on gift acceptance policies, naming policies and other gift administration procedures.

     

    This individual may manage a gift officer in estate planning, the Director of Gift Planning. This individual may potentially manage other members of the central development staff, as needed. This individual may manage a small portfolio of principal level prospects and donors ($1M+), primarily estate planning prospects.

     

    Minimum Qualifications

     

    • A Bachelor’s degree

    • Experience working in a client service profession such as advancement, financial planning or legal services

    • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills

    • Exceptional written communication skills

     

    Preferred Qualifications

     

    • Advanced degree in law (JD)

    • Progressively responsible experience in drafting contracts or agreements

    • Experience working in large, complex institutions like universities, hospitals or government agencies

    • Experience in speaking with clients about their estate plans or documenting their estate gift intentions

    • Professional experience working as an advisor to leadership in making strategic decisions

    • Management experience

    • Experience with software applications often used in advancement or client services
