Meta-Sites, Updating Services, Lexis and Westlaw
Other types of Internet resources on American Indian law include
"meta-sites," which provide a compilation of links to American
Indian-related Web sites, and updating services that can help keep you
up to date on new developments in American Indian law. Lexis and Westlaw
also have some resources on American Indian law.
- The National Indian
Law Library is a public library specializing in tribal and federal
American Indian law materials. The Web site contains links to primary
and secondary sources of American Indian law, and also contains links to
news and general reference. Search the library's catalog to find
additional electronic and print resources.
The National Indian Law Library's email updating service for federal and
state court decisions, legislation, regulations, and news relating to
American Indians.
- The Wisconsin State
Law Library's "Tribal Law" page links to primary and secondary
sources of American Indian law and includes some Wisconsin-specific
links.
- The U.S.
Senate's Committee on Indian Affairs and the House of
Representative's Office of Native American and Insular Affairs provide
information on pending federal legislation.
- www.lexis.com and www.westlaw.com. Generally, neither
tribal court opinions nor tribal constitutions and codes are available
on Lexis or Westlaw. Both services provide access to treaties, however,
along with administrative materials that relate to American Indians,
such as executive orders, solicitor's opinions, presidential
proclamations, and IBIA decisions. Both Lexis and Westlaw provide
comprehensive coverage of federal court decisions, including those of
the Court of Federal Claims.
