State Bar Honors Wisconsin ABOTA for Major Donation to National Mock Trial 2014

    NEWS RELEASE
    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
    December 20, 2013

Madison, WI – The State Bar of Wisconsin is recognizing the Wisconsin chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) for its generous donation to the 2014 National High School Mock Trial Championship, which will be hosted by the State Bar in Madison next May.

The State Bar and its charitable arm, the Wisconsin Law Foundation, have set a $200,000 fundraising goal to help cover the cost of venues, awards, activities and materials for participants, who in recent years have hailed from 46 states, Guam, the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands, and South Korea.

Wisconsin ABOTA is being honored as a Gold Gavel level sponsor ($25,000 or more).

"The American Board of Trial Advocates promotes the preservation and improvement of the civil jury trial system. Donating to National Mock Trial, which showcases the constitutional guarantee of a jury trial, and teaches our young people about the jury process, was a natural choice for us,” said Attorney Jim Murray, chairman of Wisconsin ABOTA’s Contributions Committee.

Attorney Murray encouraged other organizations, law firms and individuals to donate.

“The very purpose of National Mock Trial is to preserve an important part of our constitutional heritage. The participants are our next generation of lawyers, so instilling these values now is critically important to the profession,” said Attorney Murray. “As attorneys, we should do everything we can to support this event.”

Want to make an investment in young people and become a donor today? Just visit nationalmocktrial2014.wisbar.org and select the Donate Now button. All donations are tax deductible. Checks can also be made out to the Wisconsin Law Foundation and mailed to PO Box 7158 Madison, WI 53707-7158 (make sure to write National Mock Trial in the memo line). The group also welcomes multiyear donations, which must be made by Feb. 1, 2014.
