Commission makes recommendations for U.S. Attorney
MADISON, May 20, 2005 – Today the Federal
Nominating Commission announced its four recommendations for the vacant
position of United States Attorney for the Western District of
Wisconsin. The opening results from J.B. Van Hollen's recent
resignation.
The recommendations to Senators Herb Kohl and Russ Feingold, and
Congressman F. James Sensenbrenner, Jr. were made following interviews
with potential candidates. After consulting, the three will then
forward their recommendations onto President George W. Bush, who will
make the final appointment.
The Federal Nominating Commission has been making recommendations to
Wisconsin's congressional delegation since 1979 and was charged
with recommending four to six candidates for the position. The
commission was last utilized in 2003.
Those recommended for consideration for the Madison-based post are
(in alphabetical order):
- Sean P. Duffy of Ashland
- Erik C. Peterson of Barneveld
- Patrick G. Schilling of Minocqua
- Stephen P. Sinnott of Madison
The Commission is chaired by University of Wisconsin Law School Dean
Kenneth B. Davis.
