Commission makes recommendations for U.S. Attorney

MADISON, May 20, 2005 – Today the Federal Nominating Commission announced its four recommendations for the vacant position of United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin.  The opening results from J.B. Van Hollen's recent resignation.

The recommendations to Senators Herb Kohl and Russ Feingold, and Congressman F. James Sensenbrenner, Jr. were made following interviews with potential candidates.  After consulting, the three will then forward their recommendations onto President George W. Bush, who will make the final appointment.

The Federal Nominating Commission has been making recommendations to Wisconsin's congressional delegation since 1979 and was charged with recommending four to six candidates for the position.  The commission was last utilized in 2003.

Those recommended for consideration for the Madison-based post are (in alphabetical order):

    • Sean P. Duffy of Ashland
    • Erik C. Peterson of Barneveld
    • Patrick G. Schilling of Minocqua
    • Stephen P. Sinnott of Madison

The Commission is chaired by University of Wisconsin Law School Dean Kenneth B. Davis.
