    Eckert to chair State Bar section
    Rhinelander attorney will head Litigation section

    MADISON, June 9, 2003 - Attorney Michael L. Eckert will serve as chairperson for the State Bar of Wisconsin's Litigation section beginning July 1. During his one-year term, he will oversee a 15-member committee that monitors civil litigation, insurance law and tort law. The section sponsors educational seminars and helps prepare briefs in appellate cases that affect litigation matters.

    As a managing partner of Eckert, Kost & Vocke, LLP, Eckert practices law in the areas of civil and business litigation. He graduated magna cum laude from UW-Eau Claire in 1972 and from the UW-Madison Law School in 1975. In addition to his State Bar committee work, Eckert has served on the board of directors for the Civil Trial Council of Wisconsin and was named president in 1997. Having taught classes at both theUW-Madison Law School and Marquette University Law School, Eckert has also led seminars on trial practice and civil trial preparation. His civic activities include serving as chairperson of the St. Mary's Hospital Foundation and as a board member for WXPR, a public radio station in Rhinelander.

    The State Bar of Wisconsin is the mandatory professional association, created by the Wisconsin Supreme Court, for attorneys who hold a law license in Wisconsin. With more than 20,000 members, the State Bar aids the courts in improving the administration of justice, provides continuing legal education for its members to help them maintain their expertise, and assists Wisconsin lawyers in carrying out community service initiatives to educate the public about the legal system and the value of lawyers.
