Twelve apply for federal judgeship
MADISON, July 16, 2003 - Yesterday was the deadline
for submitting applications to the Federal Nominating Commission to fill
the vacancy on the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh
Circuit. The opening results from Judge John Coffey's decision to
assume senior status.
The Federal Nominating Commission has been making recommendations to
Wisconsin's U.S. Senators since 1979. The Commission will screen
applicants and interview potential candidates before submitting its
final recommendations to Sens. Kohl and Feingold.
Those applying for a post on the Chicago-based court include (in
alphabetical order):

- John A. Busch of Milwaukee
- Paul D. Clement of Alexandria, Virginia
- J. Mac Davis of Pewaukee
- David G. Deininger of Monroe
- Daniel J. La Fave of Franksville

- Thomas L. Shriner, Jr. of Shorewood
- J.P. Stadtmueller of Whitefish Bay

- Dennis J. Verhaagh of Green Bay
- Stephen D. Willett of Phillips
The Commission is co-chaired by Marquette Law School Dean
Joseph D. Kearney and University of Wisconsin Law School Dean Kenneth B.
Davis.
