Sweeney to chair State Bar section
Madison attorney will head Environmental Law Section

MADISON, June 9, 2003 - Attorney Charles V. "Buck" Sweeney will be the incoming chairperson for the State Bar of Wisconsin's Construction and Public Contract Law section beginning July 1. During his one-year term, he will oversee a 15-member committee that facilitates communication among attorneys interested in construction and public contract law. The section monitors and proposes legislation, sponsors educational programs, publishes a newsletter and has drafted construction lien forms.

As a partner with Michael Best & Friedrich LLP, Sweeney practices in the areas of environmental and construction law. In addition to being a State Bar section chair, he is a member of the U.S. Supreme Court Bar, the Indiana Bar Association and a member of the United States Patent Bar. Sweeney is also a licensed professional engineer who assists in resolving construction law disputes. Also Sweeney maintains membership in the Wisconsin Transportation Builders Legislative committee, the Wisconsin Builders Association, and with the Associated General Contractors. Sweeney obtained an engineering degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1975 and a law degree from the UW-Madison Law School in 1985.

The State Bar of Wisconsin is the mandatory professional association, created by the Wisconsin Supreme Court, for attorneys who hold a law license in Wisconsin. With more than 20,000 members, the State Bar aids the courts in improving the administration of justice, provides continuing legal education for its members to help them maintain their expertise, and assists Wisconsin lawyers in carrying out community service initiatives to educate the public about the legal system and the value of lawyers.
