State Bar to break ground on new headquarters: Ceremony is sequel to
canceled event
Madison, July 1, 1998 - The State Bar of Wisconsin
will re-launch construction tomorrow of its new headquarters on
Madison's northeast side after the original ceremony was canceled two
weeks ago because of rain. The groundbreaking ceremony, affectionately
nicknamed "The Big Dig - the Sequel," will be at 2:00 p.m. at the new
building site, located at the American Center Office Park near the
intersection of Highway 151 and I-90/94.
Keynote speakers at the ceremony will include Attorney General James
Doyle, Lt. Governor Scott McCallum, Madison Mayor Sue Bauman, State Bar
President Susan Steingass and Past State Bar Presidents Steve Sorenson
and Gerald O'Brien.
The new headquarters were designed by HSR Architects of Madison and
will be built by Bauer and Raether Builders, Inc. The new facility will
be approximately 40,000 square feet, twice the size of the current State
Bar building. It is expected to cost approximately $4.6 million. The
State Bar will move to the new headquarters in July of 1999. The current
facility was built in 1957 and has been expanded and remodeled several
times.
