Waukesha pro bono project wins award:
Awards given at State Bar convention by Legal Action of Wisconsin
Madison, June 25, 1998 - A Waukesha program that
helps low-income residents receive legal services was recognized with a
pro bono legal services award today at the State Bar of Wisconsin's
Annual Convention in Lake Geneva.
The Waukesha Intake Project was recognized by Legal Action of
Wisconsin at the 1998 Pro Bono Publico Awards for helping over 1,500
Waukesha-area residents get access to the legal system.
Attorneys comprising the Waukesha Intake Project interview clients
two Wednesdays per year in Waukesha at the M&M Building on Main
Street. The volunteers gather the facts on each client's case, provide
assistance where appropriate and refer the client to Legal Action of
Wisconsin and the Volunteer Lawyers Program for further assistance.
The project is run by nearly 95 volunteer attorneys and a paralegal
who assists Legal Action in its efforts to reach Waukesha's low-income
community.
