    Federal Nominating Commission Fully Appointed
    Will Begin Accepting Applications for Federal Vacancies

    MADISON, August 6, 2001 - The Federal Nominating Commission that reviews applicants to fill vacancies for federal judgeships and U.S. attorneys was fully appointed last Friday. The Commission is charged with offering four to six recommendations to Wisconsin's Senators for the three vacancies in the state. There is a vacancy on the bench for the newly created District Court in Green Bay for Eastern District of Wisconsin, as well as vacancies for U.S Attorney in both the Eastern and Western Districts of Wisconsin.

    The Commission will be chaired by Marquette Law School Dean Howard Eisenberg for vacancies in the Eastern District, and UW Law School Dean Ken Davis for vacancies in the Western District.

    Those serving on the 11-member Commission are:

    • Atty. James M. Brennan of Milwaukee, appointed by the State Bar of Wisconsin
    • Atty. Gregory B.Conway of Green Bay, appointed by Senator Kohl
    • Atty. William T. Curran of Mauston, appointed by Congressman Sensenbrenner
    • Atty. Charles G. Curtis of Madison, appointed by Senator Feingold
    • Atty. Stephen M.Glynn of Milwaukee, appointed by Senator Kohl
    • Atty. Richard W.Graber of Milwaukee, appointed by Congressman Sensenbrenner
    • Atty. James H. Hall, Jr. of Milwaukee, appointed by Senator Feingold
    • Atty. John W. Knuteson of Racine, appointed by the State Bar of Wisconsin
    • Former Congressman Mark Neumann of Hartland, appointed by Congressman Sensenbrenner
    • Atty. John P. Savage of Milwaukee, appointed by Congressman Sensenbrenner

    The Federal Nominating Commission has been making recommendations to Wisconsin's U.S. Senators since 1979. The Commission will screen applicants and interview potential candidates before submitting its final recommendations to Senators Kohl and Feingold in the next 30 to 60 days.
