Disaster Planning for Wisconsin Attorneys and the Public

MADISON, September 28, 2005 – The Seminars Division and the Government Lawyer's Division of the State Bar of Wisconsin will co-present a video seminar titled, Disaster Planning for the Wisconsin Attorney: Establishing Responses to Natural and Man-Made Disasters and Public Health Emergencies, on Friday, October 7 from 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at six select locations across the state.

Earlier this year, representatives from the Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs, it's Division of Emergency Management, and the Wisconsin National Guard joined government attorneys to raise awareness about the threat of public health emergencies and provide practical advice on developing effective responses to certain types of emergencies. The seminar features the basics of emergency responses at the local, state, and national level; the relationship of federal, state, and local authorities during responses to disasters; the role of local legal counsel in disaster planning; the "Good Samaritan Law" and public health law; and funding of emergency responses. The public is invited to attend.

Cost for the seminar is $99 per person. Locations for the seminar include: Eau Claire, Holiday Inn Campus; Green Bay, Ramada Plaza Hotel; Madison, State Bar of Wisconsin Center; Milwaukee, Radisson Milwaukee West; Oshkosh, Park Plaza; and Wausau, Wausau Inn.

The State Bar of Wisconsin is the mandatory professional association, created by the Wisconsin Supreme Court, for attorneys who hold a  Wisconsin law license. With more than 21,000 members, the State Bar aids the courts in improving the administration of justice, provides continuing legal education for its members to help them maintain their expertise, and assists Wisconsin lawyers in carrying out community service initiatives to educate the public about the legal system and the value of lawyers.
