State Bar Web site receives two national recognition awards

MADISON, October 17, 2005 - The State Bar of Wisconsin recently received two national awards for its recently redesigned Web site, www.wisbar.org. The Web Marketing Association (WMA) presented a 2005 Standard of Excellence WebAward and the National Association of Bar Executives (NABE) Communications Section presented an honorable mention in the 2005 Luminary Award Excellence in Web sites category.

The WMA WebAward recognizes outstanding achievement in Web site development and recognizes Web professionals who create and maintain outstanding corporate web sites. The NABE Luminary Award recognizes excellence in bar association Web sites.

"The NABE Luminary Award judges commended WisBar for presenting a wealth of information, both to the public and to our members, in a well-organized easy-to-navigate site," says State Bar Executive Director George Brown, "Judges also commented on WisBar's user-friendly appeal to consumers, law students, and the media."

The State Bar redesigned the association's Web site last spring to better meet member needs. The changes allow improved site navigation, content organization and searching capabilities as well as new content features, including a law practice management area to help lawyers better manage their practices. State Bar staff involved nearly 100 lawyer- members in the redesign effort.

The Web Marketing Association, devoted to establishing high standards for Internet marketing and corporate Web development, recognizes Web professionals who create and maintain outstanding corporate Web sites. More than 1,300 sites in 85 industry categories were reviewed during this year's competition and entries were judged on design, copy writing, innovation, content, interactivity, navigation and use of technology.

The National Association of Bar Executives' mission is to "unite and inspire bar executives in promotion of excellence in bar association management." The Luminary Awards program, sponsored by the Communications Section, recognizes excellence in bar association Web sites, as well as publications and public relations efforts.

The State Bar of Wisconsin is the mandatory professional association, created by the Wisconsin Supreme Court, for attorneys who hold a  Wisconsin law license. With more than 21,000 members, the State Bar aids the courts in improving the administration of justice, provides continuing legal education for its members to help them maintain their expertise, and assists Wisconsin lawyers in carrying out community service initiatives to educate the public about the legal system and the value of lawyers.
