    Meet the 2011 State Bar officer candidates

    State Bar members will elect a president-elect, a treasurer, and a Judicial Council Representative this spring. Read officer candidate statements. District governor and division presidents-elect deadlines near. The president-elect serves a one-year term before becoming president. The treasurer holds the position for two years, while the Judicial Council representative serves a three-year term.

    Members interested in running for one of these offices can file a petition, which must be signed by 100 active Bar members, with the State Bar by Feb. 1. To receive a petition, contact Jan Marks at jmarks@wisbar.org or call (608) 250-6106, or (800) 444-9404, ext. 6106.

    Districts 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9, 11, 13, and 15 will elect governors in 2011. District 2 (Milwaukee) elects seven; District 9 (Dane) elects three; and all other districts elect one. The Board of Governors is the State Bar's policymaking body. Governors serve two-year terms.

    Division elections

    All four State Bar divisions are selecting candidates for their elections.

    Government Lawyers Division (GLD) members will choose a president-elect, secretary, and treasurer and three division directors to serve two-year terms. GLD members are invited to write to the GLD Nominating Committee in care of the State Bar by Feb. 1.

    Nonresident Lawyers Division (NRLD) members will choose a president-elect for a one-year term and a secretary, a treasurer, and five directors to serve two-year terms. Only active and emeritus-status NRLD members can run for these positions. NRLD members should send their resumes and letters of interest to the NRLD Nominating Committee Chair in care of the State Bar by Jan. 15.

    Senior Lawyers Division (SLD) members will choose a president-elect for a one-year term and a secretary and three directors to serve two-year terms. SLD members should write to the SLD Nominating Committee in care of the State Bar by Jan. 15.

    Young Lawyers Division (YLD) members will choose a division president-elect. YLD members are invited to write to the YLD Nominating Committee Chair in care of the State Bar by Feb. 1. YLD directors and other officers will be elected during the annual meeting in May, by nomination from the floor.

    Timing of elections

    Election ballots will be mailed no later than April 8, 2011, and must be returned by April 22, 2011. Persons elected will take office July 1, 2011.
