Paul Swanson Sworn In as 62nd President of the State Bar

Madison, WI – Oshkosh attorney Paul Swanson was joined by many friends, family members and fellow attorneys when he was sworn in as the State Bar of Wisconsin's 62nd president on Wednesday at the State Bar's Annual Meeting & Conference in the Wisconsin Dells.

The Honorable Pamela Pepper, judge for the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, emceed the event. Judge Pepper is the former chief of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin. Wisconsin Supreme Court Chief Justice Patience Roggensack administered the oath of office.

Swanson says during his term as the State Bar President he vows to continue to foster high ideals and integrity among the legal profession, aid the Wisconsin Supreme Court in the administration of justice, and to promote public education of the legal system, and public service.

"We are privileged to practice in a great profession, and I look forward to guiding the State Bar and furthering the profession while helping the public better understand the justice system," Swanson says.

Swanson assumes a one-year term on July 1, succeeding outgoing State Bar President Francis Deisinger of Milwaukee, who becomes immediate past president. During the ceremony Deisinger and three federal judges noted Swanson's ability as a lawyer, negotiator, and leader. "He has everything it takes to do this job," Deisinger says.

Swanson, who graduated from U.W. Law School, is a partner in firm of Steinhilber, Swanson, Mares, Marone & McDermott in Oshkosh, also known as Steinhilber, Swanson, Resop & Sipsma in Madison. He primarily represents corporate and individual debtors in complex business reorganization strategies, out-of-court restructurings, and formal Chapter 11 reorganizations. Swanson is a frequent lecturer on bankruptcy related topics. He was most recently treasurer of the State Bar.
