April 21, 2010 – Sign up today to speak to K-12 students. The 2010 Law Day theme is: Law in the 21st Century: Enduring Traditions, Emerging Challenges. The classroom curriculum focuses on the right to legal counsel and/or separation of powers.

“Teachers sometimes request a more general presentation where you discuss what it is like to practice law,” says YLD Law Day Project coordinator Jessica King. “Classroom time is usually less than one hour, and the YLD makes an effort to find a school that matches your regional location. It’s that easy to make a positive impact.”

“The YLD is committed to the Law Day program because it benefits students, attorney volunteers, and the community, says King. “Not only are students educated about the legal system, but they also have an opportunity to have a positive experience with an attorney. This is the YLD’s fifth year organizing this event, which reaches more than 1,000 school children statewide.”

In 2010, Law Day, May 1, falls on a Saturday. Volunteers will make presentations during the week of April 26-30. Upon receipt of your email, someone will contact you to confirm availability, schedule a brief telephone training session, and provide you with a classroom assignment.
