Put your practice on the fast track at the Wisconsin Solo and Small Firm Conference in October

Aug. 4, 2010 – Building better client relationships, avoiding malpractice, keeping abreast of technology, and dealing with everyday practice management issues are just a few reasons to attend the 2010 Wisconsin Solo and Small Firm Conference (WSSFC), from Oct. 28 to 30, in the Wisconsin Dells. Hear from regional and national speakers and choose from more than 32 education and training sessions in four different tracks.

    Day one

    Matt Homann

Learn why service – and not price – is the key to keeping clients happy and why great, not just good, service is important at a pre conference workshop, 9:30 a.m. - 12 p.m., with Matt Homann. This workshop is cohosted by the Law Office Management Section.

In the afternoon opening session, Homann will share ideas about alternative billing strategies, creative marketing techniques, and proven customer-service principles.

The founder of LexThink LLC, an innovation consultancy for lawyers and law firms, Homann has been named a Legal Rebel by the ABA Journal, and his blog The NonBillable Hour has twice been named a Top 100 Legal Blog. Homann was a solo practitioner for five years, practicing in the areas of divorce, real estate, estate planning, and collections. As a partner in a two-person law firm, he developed a unique business model that increased profitability, reduced time spent per matter, and did away with time sheets (and the billable hour).

    Day two

    Judi Craig

Attend “Make Rain, Not Mist,” with Judi Craig, on Friday morning.

Craig is a Master Certified Coach and a Senior Practice Advisor with Atticus. Author of four nationally published books, a former syndicated columnist, a regular radio show guest, prior to being recruited by Atticus Inc., Craig was president of The Practice Advisor LLC where she coached attorneys on how to increase their incomes, cut their work hours, take exceptional care of their clients, and create fulfilling lifestyles.

    Keith Hawk

Join Keith Hawk for a buffet lunch on Friday to learn about the concept of consultative selling and how to use it in the attorney’s client development process.

Hawk is the senior vice president sales for U.S. Law Firm, Corporate and Government Markets at LexisNexis, and author of Get-Real Selling.

    Day three

    Jack Newton

Delivering surprisingly great customer service is one of the most effective, cost-efficient, and practical ways to differentiate a law practice. It’s something a law practice of any size can do, and it’s something most competitors aren’t doing. Join Jack Newton, from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m.

Newton is president and cofounder of Themis Solutions Inc., the provider of Clio, a Vancouver, British Columbia-based web services company dedicated to providing online, practice management solutions to the small firm marketplace. With more than 10 years of experience building startups and web applications, Newton holds three software-related patents in the United States and Europe.

    Ken Matejka

Ken Matejka, will present the closing plenary session, “Getting Clients into Your Law Practice from Google,” from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Google’s market share for law-related search in the United States is overwhelming and continuing to grow. Learn website and Google search engine optimization fundamentals as well as the elements of a successful law office website, what to do to be favorably included in Google’s index, and how to set up a Google AdWords account in-house.

Matejka is a California attorney and cofounder of a national online marketing site for lawyer referral services, iLawyer.com, currently operated by the New York City Bar Association. In 2007 he cofounded LegalPPC, a search engine advertising company dedicated to helping lawyers and lawyer referral services get more clients through Google advertising.

The WSSFC also offers a jam-packed schedule of more than 32 education and training sessions in four different tracks. All attendees will receive conference materials in an electronic format free of charge.
