Fourth edition of Wisconsin Employment Law addresses current employment issues

July 15, 2009 – State Bar of Wisconsin CLE Books is proud to release the fourth edition of Wisconsin Employment Law. First published 15 years ago, Wisconsin Employment Law has proven to be a valuable asset for Wisconsin practitioners as the source for thorough, practical, and timely information on this most complex and critical practice area. This treatise combines the experience and expertise of more than two dozen of the state’s most well-respected employment-law practitioners. The information is concise, readable, thoroughly cited, and indexed. The text is balanced, offering perspectives of both employer and employee, and contains practice pointers and strategies to ensure the usefulness of this resource in daily practice.

Wisconsin Employment Law is organized by topic so that readers can quickly find a complete discussion of any employment problem and the applicable law. The book opens with an overview of major state and federal employment laws. Major topics covered include hiring and firing, wages and hours, employee benefits, occupational safety and health, worker’s compensation, and unemployment insurance. Intensely litigated areas of employment law, such as wrongful discharge, discrimination, and noncompetition agreements, are discussed in detail.

Wisconsin Employment Law seeks to address those topics that are most timely and relevant to employers and employees alike. The latest edition discusses genetic testing of employees (see chs. 2, 9, and 14); use of company technology for personal purposes (see ch. 4); and leave rights for military members and their families (see ch. 2). Further, while maintaining its focus on Wisconsin law, the new edition also addresses the latest federal laws affecting employment in Wisconsin, including the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 (see ch. 14) and the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act (see chs. 2 and 14).

Due to their popularity and demand, several chapters of Wisconsin Employment Law have been released as stand-alone publications. New editions of Hiring and Firing in Wisconsin, Wisconsin Wages and Hours Handbook, and A Guide to Wisconsin Employment Discrimination Law are now available. For those who don’t need the in-depth treatment of all the topics covered in Wisconsin Employment Law, these information-packed paperbacks may be just the ticket.
