Feb. 4, 2009 – Wisconsin lawyers in search of pro bono opportunities have an easy to use, statewide Pro Bono Opportunities Directory at their fingertips through WisBar.org.
Members can search for opportunities by county and by more than 30 areas of practice, such as bankruptcy, family, nonprofits, unemployment, immigration, veterans, and more. Searches can also be narrowed by the type of service opportunity (e.g. clinics, limited scope representation, and more).
Whether you want to search broadly or narrowly, the pro bono guide is designed to accommodate you. For example, you can search in multiple counties simultaneously using few or no other criteria. Or, you can use the guide to look for groups likely to have certain types of opportunities for specific types of clients in only one county. Each listed opportunity gives you contact information, tells you whether there is insurance coverage available to volunteers and whether the group provides training to volunteers.
"We know our members have many demands on their time, and we know that most view pro bono service as an important part of their life in the law,” says State Bar Pro Bono Coordinator Jeff Brown. “This online pro bono guide is another way the State Bar is using the power of the Internet to give members tools that help them sort through their pro bono options and act on them when it's most convenient for them."
