CLE Books updates Appellate Practice and Procedure in Wisconsin
State Bar CLE Books has released a new supplement to one of its most
popular treatises, Appellate Practice and Procedure in
Wisconsin. Now in its third edition, this publication has become an
indispensable resource on the essential concepts and processes of
Wisconsin's two-tiered appellate court system.
Authored by Madison attorney Michael S. Heffernan, the book's 28
chapters provide lawyers with practical guidance on basic steps, such as
filing a notice of appeal, preparing appellate briefs, giving oral
argument, and filing a petition for supreme court review. The book also
explains specific procedures, such as those for expedited, one-judge,
and administrative appeals; petitions for supervisory relief; and
post-decision motions. The latest supplement provides summaries and
analyses of recent legal developments affecting appellate practice and
procedure, including extensive appellate rules amendments that took
effect in 2003.
The book contains several useful appendices, updated for the new
supplement. These include:
- the frequently consulted outline on "Standards of Appellate Review,"
by the Hon. Richard S. Brown of the Wisconsin Court of Appeals, District
II;
- More than 25 sample forms for use in the appellate courts, updated
by Cornelia Clark, the Clerk of the Wisconsin Supreme Court and the
Court of Appeals (the complete set of updated forms from the book is
included on an accompanying computer disk);
- handy listings of contact numbers and addresses of offices pertinent
to appellate practice;
- materials for expedited appeals;
- and the complete text of the Wisconsin Rules of Appellate
Procedure.
The Appellate Practice and Procedure book is available for
$145 (the price for only the 2003 supplement, including the updated
forms disk, is $42), plus tax, shipping, and handling. Current owners of
the book who subscribe to the Bar's automatic supplementation service
will receive the current supplement at 10 percent off the regular
price.
