The program will be useful to anyone representing a government body and anyone who serves on a government body. Government lawyers deal with parliamentary procedure regularly, but there is little guidance on how to interpret the rules.
The program will cover:
Parliamentary procedure rules for meetings of government entities, boards, and committees including Robert’s Rules of Order and other parliamentary procedure rules.
The interplay between these rules and other procedural requirements such as the open meetings law and local procedural ordinances
How to train people running meetings to follow the appropriate rules.
The speakers, representing diverse viewpoints of the parliamentary procedure rules, include Prof. Emeritus Larry Larmer, U.W. - Madison Division of Continuing Studies; Deputy City Clerk Jim Owczarski, City of Milwaukee; and John Macy, Arenz, Molter, Macy & Riffle, S.C.
Program co-chairs Jesse Wesolowski, Wesolowski, Reidenbach & Sajdak S.C., and Mary Schanning, assistant city attorney - City of Milwaukee, will join the speakers for a panel discussion involving various vignettes demonstrating real-life scenarios involving parliamentary procedure in government meetings.
The live Jan. 18 program, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the State Bar Center in Madison, is offered simultaneously via webcast and will be rebroadcast as a webcast on Feb. 28. Tuition is $199 for State Bar members and is free for Ultimate Pass holders. The program will be submitted to the Board of Bar Examiners for up to 3.0 CLE credits.
